One year after the acquisition of Mercurius Health’s Iberian operations, Alliance Medical Iberia continues to strengthen its presence and capabilities in diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine and cancer treatment across Spain and Portugal.
During these first twelve months, Alliance Medical Iberia has combined the experience and expertise of its local teams with the scale and international capabilities of Alliance Medical Group, progressively expanding the services available to patients and healthcare professionals.
Alliance Medical Iberia currently operates across more than 15 centres and locations in Spain and Portugal and has performed approximately 84,000 diagnostic scans and treatments.
The objective remains clear: to provide patients and healthcare professionals with greater access to advanced diagnostic and treatment solutions, delivering high-quality care closer to home.
A Year of Growth and Strategic Development
The integration of radiotherapy operations in Iberia forms part of Alliance Medical Group’s strategy to strengthen its capabilities across the entire cancer care pathway, bringing additional expertise in radiotherapy and nuclear medicine.
Over the past year, several key projects have shaped Alliance Medical Iberia’s development, reflecting both the organisation’s growth in the region and the benefits of being part of an international healthcare network.
Tarragona: New Oncology Radiotherapy Services
In Tarragona, the opening of the new Radiotherapy Oncology Centre at Viamed Hospital has marked a significant step forward in the provision of cancer treatments in the region.
Equipped with advanced radiotherapy technology and supported by a specialised multidisciplinary team, the centre provides personalised cancer treatments and makes it easier for patients to access this type of care closer to home.
Andalusia: Expansion of Nuclear Medicine
In Andalusia, Alliance Medical Iberia has continued to strengthen its nuclear medicine services, building on its established PET-CT network and progressively expanding its regional presence.
The network currently includes centres in Málaga, Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Jerez de la Frontera and La Línea de la Concepción, which can be found in the Alliance Medical Iberia centre directory.
This expansion will continue with the planned opening of a new centre in Málaga, in the El Limonar area, further improving access to advanced molecular imaging services. The organisation already operates a nuclear medicine centre in Málaga.
Catalonia: CDIT Acquisition and Consolidation of Diagnostic Imaging
In Catalonia, the recent acquisition of Centre de Diagnòstic per la Imatge de Terrassa (CDIT) represents another major milestone over the past year.
Its integration, alongside the activities carried out through the Imagen Médica Digital (IMD) network, expands Alliance Medical Iberia’s diagnostic imaging services, bringing additional services, healthcare professionals and clinical expertise to the regional network.
This presence includes centres such as IMD Martorell, as part of a diagnostic imaging network that continues to strengthen across Catalonia.
One Shared Identity: Alliance Medical Iberia
Alongside this expansion of healthcare services, the group’s various organisations in Spain and Portugal have progressively moved towards a shared identity under the Alliance Medical Iberia brand.
This integration helps establish a clearer regional presence within Alliance Medical Group, while preserving the local expertise, personal approach and trusted relationships that the different teams have built over the years with patients and healthcare professionals.
António Sotto Mayor, CEO of Alliance Medical Iberia, highlights:
“Looking back on our first year as part of Alliance Medical Group, I am incredibly proud of everything our teams have achieved together. We have expanded our clinical capabilities, strengthened our presence across Iberia and taken important steps towards building a more integrated healthcare organisation.”
Bringing Diagnosis and Treatment Closer to Patients
One of the main strategic objectives of this new phase has been to strengthen Alliance Medical’s capabilities across the entire cancer care pathway.
The integration of different diagnostic and treatment services, including diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, radiotherapy and radiosurgery, within a single regional platform enables Alliance Medical Iberia to support patients and healthcare professionals at different stages of diagnosis and treatment.
This integrated model combines advanced technology, specialist clinical expertise and patient-centred care, promoting greater accessibility and continuity of care.
Nick Burley, Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Medical Group, explains:
“The past year has demonstrated the strength of the expertise, capabilities and services brought into Alliance Medical Group through the expansion of our radiotherapy operations.
During this period, António and the entire team have successfully brought together capabilities, expertise and services from across the region. Their progress demonstrates the value of combining deep local knowledge with Alliance Medical Group’s international capabilities, while further strengthening our expertise in diagnostic imaging, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine.
Looking ahead, we see further opportunities to build on these foundations through collaboration, research, innovation and the continuous development of cancer care services.”
Research and Innovation as Part of Our Growth
Alongside its clinical and operational development, Alliance Medical Iberia’s teams are also involved in research and innovation initiatives undertaken across Alliance Medical Group.
These include projects aimed at exploring the potential of artificial intelligence in diagnostic services, bringing the clinical expertise of regional teams to initiatives with applications across different markets within the group.
A Network Ready for Continued Growth
As it enters its second year as part of Alliance Medical Group, Alliance Medical Iberia remains committed to expanding access to high-quality healthcare, strengthening collaboration with hospitals and healthcare professionals, and continuing to invest in new diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
António Sotto Mayor summarises this commitment:
“Beyond the milestones and growth, what matters most is the impact we have on our patients’ lives every day. Our ambition is to continue bringing advanced diagnostics and cancer treatment closer to more people, combining clinical excellence, innovation and the compassionate care that defines our teams.”
With an increasingly strong network, a shared identity and growing capabilities in diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine and oncology, Alliance Medical Iberia enters this new phase with a clear vision for the future.
Building on the progress achieved during these first twelve months, the organisation will continue working to expand access to high-quality healthcare services, strengthen partnerships with healthcare professionals and institutions, and contribute to Alliance Medical Group’s shared mission: to make a meaningful difference to the care and quality of life of more patients.
