The CV of Prof. Dr. Kita Sallabanda, recently appointed President of the European Society of Neurosurgery, is a dazzling journey to the vast continent that is Neurosurgery and Radiosurgery, whose journey goes on and on since the 80s, when it began. He is an eminence in this area, recognized worldwide. In his research work he has won awards such as the “Comparison of ventriculo-peritoneal and lumbo-peritoneal shunts in normotensive hydrocephalus (NTH) in adults”, awarded as the best work of the Congress.
He is also responsible for the work “Radiosurgery, fundamentals, technological advances, indications and results”, published in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid. The book, which is now in its 2nd edition, involves numerous professionals in addition to himself, and it is an essential text on the subject.
As for his pedagogical and teaching work, Prof. Dr. Sallabanda is the Director of the Master’s Degree in Radiosurgery of the Central Nervous System of the Complutense University of Madrid for the sixth consecutive year (2017-2023), of the School of Radiosurgery of the SENEC and holds the position of President of the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery.
And also, during the year 2023 he directs the 2nd edition of the course “School of Radiosurgery” that is held in March in Granada, by the hand of SENEC, the Spanish Society of Neurosurgery. Its awards and recognition are not limited to professionals. The doctor holds the Gold Medal of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Spain and the Order of Civil Merit. And, for some time he was Consul of Spain in Tirana.
In 2023 he was unanimously appointed as president of the SRS section of the EANS, European Society of Radiosurgery.
Dr. Morena Sallabanda is a Radiation Oncologist at IRCA and complements her professional work at the Quirón Salud Proton Therapy Center.
He studied Medicine and Surgery in Madrid, at the Complutense University of Madrid and at the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital, obtaining his doctorate in 2021 after a 5-year research thesis.
During that time he also completed the Master’s Degree in Radiosurgery, of which, over the years he has ended up contributing his experience and participating as a Teacher.
His experience as a specialist in Radiation Oncology is extensive, having held this position within the Genesis Care entity in emblematic hospitals such as the Hospital la Milagrosa in Madrid and in the Cyberknife Unit in Madrid.
The Radiation Oncology residency was carried out at the Puerta de Hierro University Hospital in Majadahonda.
